FROM THE DIRECTOR

Karen Smith

Dear Parents,

Raising a child is the most important challenge parents have to face. Our children encounter pressures today far different from the ones we faced as children.

We would be delighted to have you choose Peace Lutheran Preschool to assist you in this education process.

Your concern for quality education with solid Christian foundations will have a lasting influence on your child.

May God bless your decision and your family …

In Christ's Name,

Karen Smith

Philosophy

The administration, faculty and staff of Peace Lutheran Preschool believe that education is valuable and that the initial educational experiences of a child contribute greatly to his or her future success. We are committed to providing a comprehensive preschool education in a safe, nurturing, Christian environment.

The goals for the students of Peace Lutheran Preschool address both spiritual and educational needs. We strive to prepare the students to live life in the proper relationship with God and expose them to the basic academic areas through an integrated approach. To achieve these goals, a combination of Faith Alive, Beka, and additional pertinent curricular materials developmentally appropriate for three and four year old children are used. Every attempt is made to meet the individual needs of students during their tenure at Peace Lutheran Preschool. It is our intent that the children will exit our Preschool program with the necessary skills for entry into a kindergarten program in a public or faith-based school with a strong Christian foundation.

Curriculum

Peace Lutheran Preschool implements the SCEWD curriculum, which is a developmentally appropriate curriculum designed for Christian schools. The SCEWD plan (Spiritual/Social, Communication Arts, Wellness, and Discovery) allows for a variety of resources including A Beka, Brigance, When I Say Go, Faith Alive and other CPH materials.

Admissions

Peace Lutheran Preschool admits students of any race, color, nationality or ethnic group. Enrollment, registration fee and all designated forms must be completed in full before the student's enrollment is complete.

Pre-kindergarten students must be three years old on or before September 1st and potty trained. Any exception must be approved by the Director. All children entering Preschool for the first time must present an immunization certificate and a form from their physician stating they are in good health.

School Calendar

Peace Lutheran Preschool will follow the schedule of the Okeechobee County School System. A copy of the Calendar will be made available to parents prior to the opening of school. Parents will be notified of any exception to the Calendar.

We believe that the staff must lovingly guide and direct the children to help them to learn to cooperate with their peers, respect authority, and exhibit self-control. In some cases, children may not respond to redirection or counsel from a teacher. In those cases, time out or a loss of privilege may be appropriate. Time out may last from three to five minutes. If a child is having consistent difficulties, or causes disruption to the entire group, her or she may be sent to the Director's office for further counseling. In extreme cases, a parent may be called to assist the Director. Please be advised that no form of corporal punishment is ever used at Peace Lutheran Preschool. Corporal punishment is a method of discipline that must be decided by each individual and is best administered by the parent.

Field Trips

Field trips will be planned periodically throughout the school year. Field trips are correlated with the education program. They are considered to be an extension of the classroom and are a part of the enrichment program. Learning takes place when the child is actively involved. A written note, along with a permission slip, will be sent home prior to all school trips. These slips must be signed and returned if you want your child to participate. All drivers must have a valid drivers license and proof of insurance. No vehicles will leave the parking lot until all students are loaded and all vehicles will stay together.
